Vacation Bible School - VBS Fiesta

Day 1

The VBS Fiesta began with the celebration of new life that is available in Christ Jesus.  In addition to crafts, recreation, and refreshments, children listened to the story of four men who brought their paralyzed friend to Jesus.  In Luke 5:17-25, we learned the paralyzed man had friends who cared for him deeply, but more importantly we are introduced to the God who loved him perfectly.   In life, we desire to have lasting friendships, but often these relationships are difficult to find.  The great news for us is that in Jesus we find a friend who sticks closer than a brother, and a savior that atoned for the sins of his people. What amazing love!

Scripture memory:  John 15:15: “I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business.  Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I have learned from the Father I have made known to you.”

Day 2

Water balloons flew through the air during recreation and picture frames were constructed in the craft shop!

At the drive-in, the projector brought to life the newest adventures of our friend, Chadder.  In the midst of all these activities, one constant theme was taught: Jesus is our life, and to live is Christ.

During Bible lesson, children were introduced to a man named Lazarus.  As Jesus called Lazarus from the grave, we see the power of Jesus to turn pain and death into joy and life.  The great news for you is that not only does Jesus hold power over physical life, but that the sacrifice of Christ opened the way to spiritual life.  In the death and resurrection of Christ, we find the way to be forgiven of our sins and receive eternal life and peace with the Father.  Jesus is indeed the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

Scripture memory:  Deuteronomy 6:5: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.”

Day 3

No signs of slowing down!  Kids were energized and started the day with some upbeat praise songs before embarking on their scheduled rotation.  The craft shop instructed the children in making sock fish. And just when it appeared the children were beginning to slow down, cupcakes and punch were served in the refreshment room.

In Bible Study, the kids learned how Jesus called his first disciples.  Matthew 4:18-22 finds Jesus calling Peter, Andrew, James, and John to drop their fishing nets and follow Him.  All four responded and began to follow Christ.  In much the same way, Jesus commands us to repent, give up our old life, and believe in Him.  Let us serve Jesus and follow where He leads!

Scripture Memory Verse: Matthew 4:19: “Come, follow me.” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.”  At once they left their nets and followed Him.

Day 4

VBS Fiesta held strong in day four as groups geared up for another great morning.  Between the recreational obstacle course and the continuing saga of Chadder, there was no shortage of fun activities.  Energy abounded!

In Bible study, the kids reached the pinnacle of the week.  The students listened to the crucifixion and resurrection accounts of Jesus, as taught in John 19:17-20:29.  In them, the kids saw the greatest truth unfold:  God sent His one and only Son to save his people from their sins.  Apart from Christ there is no life, but with Him, you find life eternal.  Praise God for His grace in sending a Savior!

Scripture memory verse:  John 14:19:  “Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me.  Because I live, you also will live.”

Day 5

Far too quickly, week's end arrived.  The week-long celebration of Jesus came to an end as kids completed their final craft and sang “Never Be the Same!”

In Bible study, the children were left with a challenge from Acts 9:1-19.  In this passage, we see a man name Ananias following God’s command to minister to Saul.  The remarkable part of the story is that Ananias obeyed God - even though he knew Saul hated Christians.  Sure, Ananias was hesitant, but his actions were used by God to restore Saul’s sight and bring Saul to faith in God.  Sometimes God may ask you to do things that are hard, but you must remember that He equips those called.

Scripture memory:  Hebrews 13:6:  “So we will say with confidence, ‘The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid.  What can man do to me?’”

VBS Fiesta ended, but the celebration of what Jesus has done for us should never end.  For as we see in Luke 15:32: “But we had to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.”
